The teaching of English as a Second Language (ESL) in the Kindergarten classroom in Puerto Rico public schools has been a controversial topic to most boricuas (term used to name the native Puerto Rican) for over fifteen years. Though the teaching of English at this level has never been mandatory by the Department of Education, many teachers have been delivering ESL lessons at this level for many years without a properly identified curriculum to suit the needs of the kindergarten student. The proposed curriculum is an innovative approach concerning the teaching of ESL through an arts-based medium to aid fellow educators in preparing their teaching lessons. The designed curriculum intends to serve as a model that can be incorporated or adapted in any English classroom in Puerto Rico or around the world by any English teacher to suit the specific needs of every educational community. .
