Hip Hop Puppet Theatre for children by children is an arts-in-motion project. Fueled by imagination and a love of community, this budding theatre ensemble is comprised of ten children between the ages of five and sixteen.

520 $a The goal of the Hip Hop Puppet Theatre for children by children is to address issues children face every day in a fun but informative way and to use hip hop is its hook. The first production "Sticks & Stones" has a young boy confront a bully who torments him day after day on the school bus, at the bus stop, in school and even on the playground. With a little support from his friends, he decides to stand up to the bully once and for all and in the end he learns a valuable lesson.
520 $a Hip Hop is incorporated in the show along with the puppets because of its universal appeal to our youth. Another purpose of using the hip hop genre is to ignite not only children's imaginations but their social consciousness. That desire to fuel the imaginations of children by adding an important message with a "hip" ring to it was the beginning of the Hip Hop Puppet Theatre .
520 $a The subtitle "for children by children" emphasizes that this production is meant to have children be the driving force behind the entire production. It was very important that this project be seen through the eyes of a child.
520 $a The first production "Sticks & Stones" was presented on the Southwest Community Center on February 28, 2009. After rave reviews, the ensemble was asked to come back and present the show again for their summer program on July 16th.
