Thesis (Ph.D.)--University of Massachusetts Lowell, 2010.
As wireless mobile data usage grows almost exponentially, it becomes crucial to design more efficient resource management algorithm. Having new user prioritization and classification techniques is essential for managing resources for next generation cellular wireless communication systems. Most of the scheduling algorithms developed so far depend on parameters that are first- or second-order functions of fast changing channel conditions. They do not take network and user specific QoS parameters into account. Therefore, network designers can not have control over scheduling process in order to differentiate user traffic. The purpose of next-generation scheduling algorithms is to provide users with the required throughput for the applications they are running at the time they need them.

In this thesis, we propose three new QoS-based scheduling algorithms and, provide their mathematical analysis and the simulation results. The contributions of this research to the general state of knowledge lie in four areas; i) enhance the performance of existing scheduling algorithms used in CDMA 1xEVDO-type systems, ii) define new QoS based scheduling techniques for next generation CDMA based networks, iii) optimize the performance of current scheduler algorithm of CDMA 1xEVDO network, and present the real data collected in live air CDMA network, and iv) develop a new simulation environment for next-generation CDMA based cellular wireless networks.
