Thesis (D.H.A.)--University of Phoenix, 2011.
The purpose of the qualitative study was to explore the perceptions of adult patients who presented to a hospital emergency room in Central Texas with a chief complaint of chest pain. The goal was to inquire on patients' lived experience of having gone to the emergency room and on their satisfaction levels of having received health care services in a hospital emergency room. Respondents completed an interview consisting of eleven open-ended questions that elicited responses about their emergency room experience. Various thematic responses evolved in the analysis of data and in response to research questions associated with patients having received good quality health care services, satisfaction with healthcare services received, and in patients' description of their emergency room experience as an acceptable experience or positive experience. Thematic results in response to research questions identified 64% of respondents felt the quality of health care services they received was good, very good or great. Sixty five percent of respondents were satisfied with the level of health care services received and 79% of respondents felth their overall emergency room experience was acceptable or expressed feeling their emergency room experience was a positive experience. The results of the study support the conclusion that patients treated for having a true emergency, a chief complaint of chest pain, were satisfied with the care they received in a hospital emergency room in Central Texas.
