The purpose of this research was to examine the relationship between learning organization dimensions and academic library performance. It studied whether differences existed in learning organization dimensions given the predictor variables of performance indicators, library resources, and demographics of the academic library.

This research used primary data from a survey collected by the author and secondary data from the National Center for Education Statistics. The survey data were collected using Watkins and Marsick's Dimensions of Learning Organization Questionnaire instrument. This instrument assesses participants' attitudes toward learning organization dimensions. Respondents included 141 library employees who represented 115 university/college libraries in the United States. The survey records were merged with the data file from National Center for Education Statistics. Profile analysis was used to examine levels, parallelism, and flatness of the data.

The seven dependent variables were the seven dimensions of the survey instrument. The ten predictor variables were four performance indicators, four library resources, and two demographics (gender and role). Results showed that while there were no statistically significant differences in any level tests, all flatness tests were statistically significant with large effect size. The results of the parallelism tests showed statistical significance on one performance indicator, Reference per Student, and statistical significance on one library resource, Material Expenditure to Total Expenditure Rate.

Research findings suggested that higher reference transactions per student in a library results in better embedded systems, leaders support learning, and good environment connection. The research findings also suggested that higher material expenditure to total expenditure rate in a library was related to better team learning, more empowerment, and good environment connection.
