Thesis (M.S.W.)--California State University, Long Beach, 2009.
The purpose of this narrative project was to share the narrator's life experiences growing up in the "Killing Field" under Pol Pot's Khmer Rouge regime, the difficult journey of escaping the war-torn country to live in refugee camps and eventually arrive in the United States of American and enter school for the first time in the fifth grade. Her educational journey led her to attend public school systems in Long Beach, California, from elementary school to the university. Relevant literature was reviewed regarding the history of Cambodia and the acculturation process. The narrator hopes that her narrative will offer the field of social work a source of understanding in working with ethnic Laotian Cambodians and other refugee clients.
