This dissertation consists of three chapters examining the interaction of economic behavior and relationships among families and friends over the life course. The first chapter examines the effect of economic growth on the living arrangements of young adults focusing on leaving the parental home. The second chapter looks at co-residence between parents and children as parents age and require care. The third chapter examines the role of friends in influencing the behavior of adolescents.
