Thesis (M.S.W.)--California State University, Long Beach, 2009.
This curriculum was created to target the vulnerable population of adolescent mothers who exit the Child Welfare System, approximately 17,000 per year, without the custody of their child. The purpose of the proposed curriculum is to provide supportive services to adolescent mothers, ages 15 to 18, who are in the process of losing custody of their child. The curriculum addresses the maternal risk factors that directly correlate to repeat pregnancy and recidivism. The curriculum is an 8-week course that is designed to increase levels of self-esteem, facilitate resolution to Complicated Grief (CG), and disseminate proficient knowledge of Safe Sex practices. This curriculum was developed after analyzing literature and research that supported the effectiveness of gender-specific interventions that utilize the support group setting with Play Therapy and Strength-Based modalities.
