Thesis (M.S.W.)--California State University, Long Beach, 2010.
This grant project is centered around providing culturally competent educational and support services for prospective adoptive parents who will potentially assume the responsibility of a transracial adoption. The development of cultural competence among potential adoptive parents is a key component in a sucessful transracial adoption. The act of providing cultural sensitivity trainings and group support to adoptive families will help to promote permanency and address the concerns among adoptive parents. This program will ultimately benefit the family by helping them to become more unified and by giving them the tools they need to better support the children involved. The collective efforts of both the agency and adoptive parents will help to promote the healthy development, positive ethnic idendtity, and overall well-being of transracially adopted children. The actual submission and/or funding of this grant was not a requirement for the successful completion of the project.
