Transition planning and services provided for students with learning disabilities (LD) can vary greatly across school districts To examine differences among districts, eighty-two special educators from three school districts in New York State completed the Secondary Education Transition Questionnaire (SETQ), which was developed by the researcher to gather information about transition practices used to prepare students with LD for the transition from secondary school to postsecondary school, work, and/or community participation. Personnel perceptions of assessment practices and implementation challenges were also examined. Descriptive statistics were used and analyzed by aggregating all responses to the SETQ (50 items). Statements from the questionnaire were first grouped by research questions and then analyzed using a one-way ANOVA to determine differences between school districts. The findings of this study offer insights and recommendations to improve the current transition practices in secondary schools. In addition, barriers to the implementation of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) regulations are discussed.
