The purpose of this study was to find out, based on Nigerian immigrant perspectives, if Nigerians in the United States have positive or negative attitude towards caregiving and the reasons for the attitudes. This study was designed to reveal whether or not culture has any influence on the ways that older adults are cared for.

520 $a The researcher interviewed 15 Nigerians in the United States using a convenience and snowball sample to explore the stress of caregiving among Nigerians in the United States. Results indicated that Nigerians immigrants see caregiving as stressful financially, but they see it as a cultural obligation to care for the elderly. Information gathered from this study shows that Nigerians in the United States see a need for Nigerian government to assist most families in caring for the elderly and some came to this opinion based on their experiences in the United States.
