Thesis (Ph.D.)--National University of Singapore (Singapore), 2015.
Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have been shown to have an innate ability to migrate towards injured tissues. Clinical trials have shown evidence of improvements in patients following the use of MSCs for tissue regeneration. However, the engraftment of the cells in the host tissues has consistently been reported to be low. Although it has not been investigated before, the poor engraftment may have an impact on the efficacy of the regulation and modulation of tissue repair by the donor MSCs.

The objective of this thesis is to develop an approach to enhance the low engraftment rates of the transplanted MSCs with an aim towards supporting more efficient tissue repair in future clinical applications. (Abstract shortened by UMI.).
