It researches how thisboundary has developed over different periods and epochsand in different places. It also shows that the boundary has never been a stable anddefined division, but has been subject to change and development as well as being a place of encounter and exchangebetween religions and cultures. There is no purely Western or purely Eastern Church; one has influenced the other.
