This study answers the question "How can we help people remember sermons better?" by exploring the areas of homiletics, active education, and Asian American culture. The study explores biblical passages where sermons are preached or where God instructs leaders to teach the next generation how to be faithful to him in order to discover principles for comprehension, obedience, and remembering God's commands. Research of current literature revealed the following factors relevant to the study: cooperation v. collaboration, learning styles, retention factors, age, church dynamics, Asian v. Non-Asian cultural considerations, the effect of application on retention, and homiletical practices.The study was conducted at a multiethnic, multigenerational church in Honolulu, Hawai'i. A sharing/testimony time was added to the order of service during the church's worship services. A summative evaluation was conducted based on surveys measuring sermon retention before and after the week that the sharing/testimony time was featured at the church. The study concludes that a collaborative experience based on Asian collectivistic cultures can be helpful for churches and parishioners of any culture in improving sermon retention.
