The purpose of this qualitative study on aging was to examine the perceptions senior adult tennis players have as to the role tennis plays in their being satisfied with life. Sixteen senior adult tennis players participated in this study, eight females and eight males. The ages of the participants ranged from 57 years of age to 79 years of age. The data sources for this research included audio-taped interviews, observations, and field notes. The data was analyzed by using the constant comparison method. Through the coding and categorization process four themes emerged. These themes were: social, self, family, and faith. Each theme had sub-categories that emerged as well.

The results of this study indicated that involvement in team tennis played an important role in the life satisfaction of the participants: satisfaction with life specifically in the area of self, meaning self-awareness, self-efficacy, motivation for health, the enjoyment of physical activity, and the enjoyment of success.
