This thesis represents an attempt to create a new paradigm of drama therapy based upon ancient philosophies and modern theories of energy and healing. The primary method of research for this thesis is a historical and multicultural literature review of ancient healing practices, and modern scientific theories describing energy and healing. After exploring this research, we attempt to reconcile energy principles with current theories of drama therapy, formulating the drama therapy energy paradigm. The drama therapy energy paradigm is designed to provide the eclectic drama therapist with a therapeutic approach that acknowledges and integrates the somatic and transpersonal dimensions of human experience. In this paradigm, drama therapy is understood as the process by which individuals access life force energy, release and work through blockages, thus promoting health and integration. The second stage of research is phenomenological. Through vignettes we demonstrate the application of the energy paradigm in our therapy practice.
