The phenomena of migration occupy an important place in the Islamic tradition. The rights of forced migrants emphasized in the scripture, coupled with the early Muslim treatment of them, provides a rich legacy of ethico-normative standards and juridical principles. The emergence of a modern system of nation-states has highlighted problems in applying these principles in the modern context since they were conceptualized based on the classical system of governance. This thesis presents an analytical study of the rights of forced migrants in the Islamic tradition along with international law and the moral responsibilities of Muslims towards them. By taking the example of Rohingya refugees in India as a case study, the research shows how the Islamic ethico-normative principles on forced migration can be applied in the modern context.
