The purpose of this qualitative descriptive study was to explore how student veterans attending a faith-based higher education institution experience, utilize, and value the student support services being provided in the Southeastern United States. The research questions that guided this qualitative descriptive study were: How do student veterans attending a faith-based higher education institution experience student support services? How do student veterans attending a faith-based higher education institution utilize student support services? What do student veterans attending a faith-based higher education institution believe is the value of the student support services provided? The researcher used semi-structured interview questions and a focus group to collect the data from 16 student veterans attending the faith-based institution in the Southeastern United States. The theoretical foundation for this study was Vacchi's Model of Student Veteran Support. The researcher used thematic analysis and Yin's five step data analysis cycle to analyze the data. Eleven themes emerged from the data: awareness, friendliness, feelings, opinions, accessibility, services used, services not used, beneficial services, non-beneficial services, inclusion from the university, and motivation from the individual. Of these themes, awareness and accessibility of services and the inclusion from the university were named as the most important conclusions. The conclusions stress to educators and researchers the need for student veterans to be intentionally made aware and have accessibility to use the student support services. The results from this study provides qualitative evidence for literature to show how student veterans experience, utilize, and value student support services at a faith-based institution.
