This thesis project discusses a relationship between Chicano and Street Arts based on my experience as a Chicano artist. I studied the history of both and chose "Teen Angels, an underground art magazine," as a focal point of my thesis. I have been investigating the visual language and imagery of Chicano Street Art to explore matters of Chicano art and culture related to my personal history and stories in my work. Teen Angels has many similar stories to my own about past gang membership and activities. The secrecy disclosed, and vulnerability uncovered in these stories are all told in the form of art. My focus is on street art, which is considered a low form of art; my artwork plays with the boundaries of art on the street and institutionalized art, which is regarded as high art. Through this project, I have found where my art stands; however, it will never be an ending story of discovery as an ethnic artist in a complex global art community.
