Research on fathers' involvement in their daughter's lives has increased in the literature; however, the significance of the father-daughter relationship lacks cohesiveness and clarity. The objective of the present study was to contribute to the literature and the understanding of the most significant aspects of the father-daughter relationship, and the ways in which it shapes the daughter's self-esteem as an adult in divorced or non-divorced families among daughters from different ethnic backgrounds. Past research suggests that fathers tend to have a substantial impact on their daughter's psychological well-being, independent of mother relations, although these findings are limited. Additionally, past research has focused on paternal involvement among specific regions and ethnic groups, rather than exploring paternal involvement across a variety of ethnicities. The effects of parental divorce extending into women's adulthood has also received limited research attention. Therefore the current study intended to enhance the literature of non-divorced and divorced father's involvement during childhood and adolescence, and the effects this has on their young adult daughter's self-esteem compared across five different ethnicities (Caucasian (non-Hispanic), African-American/Black, Hispanic/Latino/a, Asian and Multi-Racial).

520 $a The study found that a young adult daughter's self-esteem and her father's involvement was positively associated, suggesting that young adult daughters with more father involvement, tend to have higher self-esteem. It was also discovered that greater father involvement in divorced families predicts greater levels of young adult daughter's self-esteem, and there was no difference found in young adult daughters having higher or lower levels of self-esteem in married families. When accounting for the father's ethnicity in his involvement with his daughter among married and divorced families, African-American/Black married fathers were perceived to have higher father involvement in their daughter's lives than Caucasian, Hispanic/Latino and Asian married fathers. There was no difference in perceived father involvement among Multi-Racial married fathers. In regards to divorced fathers, Caucasian fathers and African-American/Black fathers were both perceived to have higher father involvement in their daughter's lives than Multi-Racial divorced fathers. Furthermore, there was no difference between divorced Hispanic/Latino and Asian father's involvement.
